EC3 (Embodied Carbon Construction Calculator) is a highly anticipated open source tool for architects, engineers, owners, construction companies, building material suppliers and policy makers to compare and reduce embodied carbon emissions from construction materials.
It aggregates publicly available Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) data, enabling users to compare the embodied carbon impacts from different manufacturers within common construction material categories such as concrete, steel, wood, and insulation.
The EC3 tool is developed by Skanska USA and C-Change Labs, in partnership with the Carbon Leadership Forum and over 30 industry partners. It will be launching to the public on November 19th at Greenbuild conference in Atlanta, a few days prior to this ECN Vancouver event. We are excited to welcome Phil Northcott from C-Change Labs, the software developer behind EC3, to come give a demo of this tool and answer questions.
After the EC3 demo and Q&A, we will dive into a group discussion around how we can incorporate this EPD information to inform our material/product choices in the design of our buildings. Morgan McDonald from Ledcor will offer some brief thoughts and questions to set up our group discussions.
Thank you to our sponsor DIALOG, who will be hosting us in their office and providing snacks and refreshments for the event.
